Michael McHorney
Founder
Michael McHorney brings more than a decade of leadership experience in the children's museum sector to MuseumHQ. As a longtime advocate for the power of play, creativity, and early learning, Michael’s career reflects a commitment to community-driven education and sustainable organizational growth. Michael’s approach blends practical, hands-on solutions with big-picture strategy, enabling museums of all sizes to create engaging spaces that spark wonder, foster learning, and strengthen communities.

Michael served as the Executive Director of the Children's Museum of Eau Claire (CMEC) for over 10 years, where he successfully led the museum through major expansions, including a multi-million-dollar capital campaign and the construction of a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility. Under his leadership, CMEC grew its reach, increased its funding stability, and developed award-winning educational exhibits and programs.In November 2023, Michael transitioned from his role at the Children's Museum of Eau Claire to launch MuseumHQ — a consulting practice dedicated to helping children's museums nationwide reach their full potential. His expertise spans strategic planning, fundraising, grant management, board development, exhibit planning, and operational leadership.
